If 100,000 People Follow Me, I Will Legally Change My Middle Name to Twitter

Yes, you did read that correctly. I started working with websites in the late 90’s back when I was around 13 years old. I did some design work a few of my dad’s friends and co-workers at the local University where he was a director. Those were the days when Photoshop 4 was cutting edge, and being able to do anything at all with Flash was a big deal.

A lot has changed since then, and I am now a partner at DesignVitality, a web design firm here in southern California. Over the years I have worked with, and grown to love a lot of social media sites and social networks including FaceBook, Digg, Reddit and Stumbleupon. My latest craze has been with Twitter, and I have to say that this feels different then all the other times I was really into a website.

The more time I spend on it, the more I find myself really getting sucked into Twitter. I don’t know what it is, but it has gotten to the point where my friends started saying my middle name is “Twitter.”

And that’s where it came from, the idea that if I had like 100,000 followers on Twitter by next year I really would change my middle name to Twitter. My middle name is Mahmood, so changing it to Twitter would be a pretty big change. My friends didn’t believe that I would really do it so I am making this public:

If 100,000 people follow me on Twitter, I will legally change my middle name to Twitter.

You can follow me on Twitter or retweet this.

Middle name? Why stop there, my friend? Everyone knows the old “Blank is my middle name.” See, people already say “twitter is my middle name” even though it technically isn’t. How will you be able to differentiate yourself from those poseurs?

I think the only right thing to do in this situation is legally change your first or last name to twitter.

Promise me that and I will follow you.

    :)

Middle name isn’t worth a follow (actually, I follow on content vs. gimmicks and still can’t understand the fascination with zillions of followers).

But why not go all the way, be really ballsy and legally change your FIRST name to ‘Tweet’? Which begs the question, since you posed the dare–how much is 100k followers worth to you?

(plus, Tweet is a better name than Twitter, IMO)

What a great idea! Good luck and let me know if I can be of assistance. Maybe together we can help each other reach our goals?
